Ansel Adams set out to capture the magical mystery of light, shadow, and darkness. He of course accomplished this feat and the most wonderful part of his success is that his photographs allow us all to share in his achievement to this day and far beyond. Though he passed away in the 1980s his photographs are still widely revered, and popularity undiminished.
His love of nature was consistent throughout his life, and is apparent in his subject matter. We are fortunate that he found a place for driftwood in his still-life work. Two such pieces, Driftwood, and Rose and Driftwood can hold ones attention like little else can due to its clarity and detail. If you are not familiar with these pieces, I assure you it is well worth a look-see on the internet to acquaint yourself.
